Just to let everyone know, I have moved CodeGrrl to a new server tonight. We are now hosted by Dreamhost. Over the past 6 months or so, visitors have been increasing steadily, and the old server just wasn’t coping with the load from the forums very well anymore.
The move went pretty smoothly, I am just now fixing the last few bugs in the forums. The MySQL database I moved over was 88MB in size - the vast majority of it caused by the forums! Anyway, I think everything is pretty much back up and running, but please let me know if you spot any errors anywhere.
Hopefully our new location will provide us with faster page loading and less downtime!

CRITICAL SECURITY UPDATE FOR PHPFANBASE USERS
Thanks to Jem, we have once again been altered to a potential security hole in PHPFanbase.
You do not need to reinstall the whole script as the only file affected is join.php. For your convenience, we have a fixed version of join.php available here. The easiest way to secure your scripts:
- Download the fixed join.php
- Unzip it
- Replace ALL copies of join.php on all of your fanlistings using PHPFanBase
We strongly urge that ALL users of this script replace their existing join.php forms as soon as possible!

We have been notified of some additional security issues with several of the scripts available here. We are unsure at the moment where these issues lie and how to fix them, so we have taken all scripts offline until we can fix this. Apologies for any inconvenience. :/

A security flaw has been discovered in several of CodeGrrl’s scripts:
FA-PHPHosting, PHPClique, PHPCalendar, PHPCurrently, PHPFanBase, PHPQuotes
Please see here for full details on how to fix this. It is important that you do this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. By not fixing this, you are letting your site be vulnerable to hacking. This is now a known flaw to hackers, so they will be actively looking for sites to exploit - please fix the issue as soon as possible!

Security risk with phpBB boards
Following personal experience of such an attack, I thought I’d quickly mention this here so that, hopefully, I can prevent anyone else from undergoing the same fate!
As you can read here and here, there’s currently a rampant worm that’s seeking and exploiting older versions of phpBB bulletin boards. Once its attacked, your will usually see the following message on all pages with .html and .php extensions:
This site is defaced!!!
NeverEverNoSanity WebWorm generation [xx].
(Please note that the generation number can vary.)
At the moment it’s still not clear whether or not this is a security problem with the board itself or if it’s with PHP version 4.3.9, but advice at the moment is to ensure that your board is running on the latest version 2.0.11 of PHPBB in order to try and minimise attack. I’d also suggest backing up your board and site just in case.
I would imagine that there are quite a number of people who read this who may use this BB, so I hope that someone finds this useful!
V xx
